Boost for Youth Mental Health in Alberta

Hey Calgary! Big news for youth mental health is coming tomorrow! While we saw the media advisory drop today (October 15), the actual announcement is set for October 16 right here in Calgary.

The Honourable Marjorie Michel, our Federal Minister of Health, will hold a major press conference to announce four key projects funded through the federal Youth Mental Health Fund. But the most crucial detail for Alberta families is the partnership: Minister Michel will be joined by Rick Wilson, Alberta’s Minister of Mental Health and Addiction.

This joint federal-provincial effort is a huge win for Calgary, signaling a united front against a crisis that affects far too many of our kids. As mental health becomes increasingly crucial—with statistics showing roughly 20% of Canadian youth facing mental health challenges—this funding promises to deliver essential support and resources where they are desperately needed, helping to cut down on crippling wait times and expand care options.

We are watching closely for the specific details of these four projects tomorrow morning! These initiatives are designed to make a real difference, addressing a significant community need from the grassroots up.

Stay informed, Calgary. This collaboration between Ottawa and Edmonton is exactly what our youth deserve. Take care, and we’ll share the full project breakdown as soon as the announcement is made!
