Serious Collision in Calgary's Foothills Industrial Park
A serious collision occurred this morning in Calgary's Foothills Industrial Park, a vital area for logistics and manufacturing. At approximately 8:45 a.m., a semi-truck traveling northbound on 52 Street S.E. collided with a Volkswagen Passat turning left onto 61 Avenue S.E.
The driver of the semi-truck was unharmed, but all three occupants of the Volkswagen were hospitalized. The front passenger sustained life-threatening injuries, while the driver and a rear passenger suffered minor injuries. Police do not believe impairment, speed, or road conditions contributed to the crash.
This incident underscores ongoing safety concerns in this busy transportation corridor. Efforts like Calgary's "Safer Mobility Plan 2024-2028" and Alberta's stricter driver training aim to reduce such occurrences. The area, crucial for the city's economy, faces potential disruptions from accidents, impacting supply chains and workers.
The Calgary Police Service's Traffic Section continues to investigate. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police at 403-266-1234 or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.calgarycrimestoppers.org, or through the P3 Tips app.
