Calgary Event Challenges Suicide Stigma with Family-Friendly Focus
Community Gathers for Mental Health Awareness
Calgary is set to host a crucial "World Suicide Prevention Awareness Event 2025" this Sunday, November 23, at the Central Public Library. Co-hosted by Diversecities and the Calgary Public Library, the event runs from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM, aiming to spark meaningful mental health conversations and actively change the narrative surrounding suicide in our community.
Designed for families, the day will feature a variety of engaging activities on Level 0, including a scavenger hunt for prizes like Paint By Numbers sets, wellness-kit building, origami, and mental health trivia. Attendees can also enjoy a screening of "Inside Out 2." This accessible approach reflects a strong community desire for welcoming venues to discuss mental health, aligning with broader city and provincial strategies to enhance well-being.
For those needing immediate support, vital resources are readily available. The Distress Centre Calgary offers a 24-hour crisis line at 403.266.HELP (4357), while the national 988 Suicide Crisis Helpline provides confidential support 24/7/365.
