Community Alert: Justice Moves Forward in January Homicide Case

Here is one that comes from the Calgary Police Service! Charges have been laid against Jennifer Lee Caswell and Steven Morris Firingstoney in the tragic January incident that took the life of Calgary resident Samuel Mulugeta. Following a detailed investigation, it was revealed that the accused and the victim had no prior connection before what’s believed to have been an unintended robbery turned fatal. This month, both Caswell and Firingstoney will face a court date—Caswell on October 22 and Firingstoney on October 29, 2025. This case opened after a passerby discovered Mulugeta unresponsive on Fifth Street S.W. at around 5:20 a.m. on January 12, 2025. Despite alerting the public and media earlier this year to help identify three potential suspects, the focus has narrowed on these two individuals, who are now in custody. Samuel’s death is a sad reminder of the personal risks faced in urban areas. Calgary, with its vibrant downtown life, is typically a safe place, but unexpected incidents shock our community to its core. This case underscores the importance of public vigilance and timely cooperation with law enforcement agencies. The ongoing safety of Calgarians is a shared responsibility, and this situation highlights the critical nature of community engagement. Remember, if you have any relevant information, you’re encouraged to help by contacting the Calgary Police Service.
