Calgary Ponzi: Trust Betrayed at Central Library
Here is one that comes from the Calgary Police Service! On Friday, September 5, 2025, at around 3:30 PM, a man allegedly defrauded a fellow library visitor by exploiting their shared Korean heritage. The interaction occurred at the Calgary Central Library, a beloved urban hub known for fostering community connections. The suspect, claiming to be from Toronto, told his target a tale of stolen identification and asked for help in the form of $1,500. In a gesture of trust, the victim handed over $1,000 in cash and $500 in gift cards. Unfortunately, the promise of repayment was fake, with the bank account used for the wire transfer closed. This incident shines a light on the importance of vigilance, even in places as familiar as our local libraries. The warrant is out for 53-year-old Man Soek Choi, and Calgarians are urged to share any tips with the police. Our city's safety relies on communal vigilance.
