Nenshi's NDP Relaunch: Outside Expertise and Policy Specifics Under Scrutiny

Nenshi Campaign Draws on External Expertise

Former Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi’s bid for the Alberta NDP leadership, which he successfully secured on June 22, 2024, has drawn considerable attention for its strategic approach. Reports indicate Nenshi’s campaign has indeed enlisted a U.S. political ad agency, Fight Agency, known for its work with figures like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Further, his campaign team includes prominent individuals with federal Liberal backgrounds, such as campaign manager Jesse Chahal, a former aide to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Mike Burton, a former chief of staff to Liberal ministers.

Ad Focuses on Struggles, Lacks Specifics

As Nenshi prepares for the 2027 provincial election, a new party ad has been released as part of his campaign's 'relaunch.' This ad prominently features Albertans’ struggles with affordability, health, and education systems. While effectively highlighting these critical issues, the ad has been noted for offering few specifics on how Nenshi and the NDP would address them. This two-year strategy aims to reintroduce Nenshi and position the party for the upcoming election.
