Calgary Unites for MADD’s Project Red Ribbon: Drive Sober or Stay Over
Calgary is once again uniting for road safety this holiday season. MADD Calgary and Area, alongside first responders and community partners, launched its 'Project Red Ribbon' campaign on November 3, urging everyone to drive sober or stay over. This crucial initiative aims to keep our roads safe during a festive, yet high-risk, time.
The message is clear: impairment by alcohol or drugs has no place behind the wheel. The campaign runs nationally from November 1 to the first Monday of the new year, emphasizing responsible choices. This aligns with local efforts, as Calgary police recently kicked off holiday checkstops on December 7, with Chief Mark Neufeld highlighting that most fatal crashes are avoidable.
Tragically, impaired driving remains a significant issue, with approximately one in four crash deaths on Canadian roadways involving a drinking driver. Choosing a designated driver, ride-share, or public transit ensures everyone gets home safely. Let's make this a season of celebration, not regret.
