Guthrie and Sinclair's Political Path Sparks Calgary Debate

Calgary's online sphere is questioning whether a new political venture, centered around Independent MLAs Peter Guthrie and Scott Sinclair, offers a genuine alternative. Many express weariness over political cycles, echoing a sentiment that a new party might not be 'any different.'

The discussion highlights appreciation for Peter Guthrie's past actions regarding the 'CorruptCare scandal.' Guthrie, a former infrastructure minister, resigned from cabinet in February 2025 due to concerns over alleged political interference in Alberta Health Services procurement. He was subsequently removed from the United Conservative Party caucus after advocating for a public inquiry into healthcare contracting. Scott Sinclair, also an Independent MLA, was expelled from the UCP caucus in March 2025.

In July 2025, Guthrie and Sinclair announced plans to revive the Progressive Conservative Party name, later aligning with the existing Alberta Party following legal threats from the UCP. A lawsuit concerning the Progressive Conservative brand was filed on November 7. While online claims surfaced on November 19 suggesting both supported an unspecified 'NWC,' this specific assertion could not be independently substantiated.
