Mark Your Calendar: Equity Sit-In Coming Soon!
Hey Calgary! Get ready for a powerful day of unified advocacy. The 'Sit In for Equity' is happening in Edmonton, and it needs our support.
On Monday, October 28, 2025, a coalition of Indigenous and disabled-led groups will descend on the Alberta Legislature for a peaceful demonstration. This is a massive, unified call for life, liberty, and security for all Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, Elderly, Immigrant, and Disabled Albertans. The timing is far from coincidental: the protest is set to kick off just as the Legislature resumes its session, demanding that the provincial government prioritize basic human dignity over political maneuvering.
Why is this sit-in crucial right now?
This event is a collective pushback against a series of controversial policies: the erosion of 2SLGBTQ+ student safety in schools, the proposed changes to disability supports (like the shift away from AISH), and the general underfunding of social services. With the province in the midst of a major teachers' strike, this rally amplifies the message that Alberta’s social fabric is stretched thin.
Participating in events like this—whether in person or by amplifying the message—reinforces our commitment to a safe and equitable Alberta for everyone. This is how we hold power accountable and ensure that policies protect the people who need support most.
