Canada Post Resumes: Calgarians Share the Relief and Humor

Calgarians are once again seeing mail and parcels trickle in, albeit on a limited basis, as Canada Post officially transitioned to rotating strikes on October 11, 2025. This shift brought an end to a nationwide service shutdown that had impacted deliveries since September 25, 2025, when the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) initiated a national strike.

The rotating strikes, which began at 6 a.m. local time on October 11, aim to maintain pressure on Canada Post while allowing some mail to move. However, the ongoing labour dispute continues to cause disruptions. Adding to the delivery woes, CUPW members have also been instructed since September 15, 2025, not to deliver unaddressed flyers. This ban on "Neighbourhood Mail" has left thousands of Canadian businesses and charities struggling to reach customers and donors.

The current unrest stems from prolonged contract negotiations that began in November 2023. Tensions escalated with the federal government's September 25, 2025 announcement of structural changes to Canada Post, including phasing out door-to-door mail delivery, which the union argues "gut[s] the public post office" and sparked the national strike. This period of fluctuating service remains a significant aspect of everyday Calgary life, affecting the smooth flow of day-to-day living.
