Calgary's CRR Expands Northern Alberta Footprint with Innovative Roadway Acquisition

Calgary's Energy Reach Extends North

Calgary-headquartered Canadian Resource Roadways (CRR) announced on November 17, 2025, a definitive agreement to acquire 53 kilometres of critical roadway infrastructure, including Seal Lake Road and East Chip Road, from Islander Oil & Gas Inc. This vital network, situated east of Peace River and north of Slave Lake, Alberta, primarily services Islander's Chipmunk project and provides crucial access for third-party operators in the Seal, Slave Lake, and Nipisi areas developing Clearwater, Bluesky, and Pekisko plays.

A New Approach to Resource Capital

Mark Tysowski, President & Founder of CRR, hailed this transaction as a "first-of-its-kind," deploying a bespoke structure to leverage roadway infrastructure and unlock capital for reinvestment. Backed by financial sponsor CBRE Investment Management, an affiliate of the world's largest commercial real estate firm, this move underscores Calgary's enduring role as a hub for financial and corporate expertise in the resource sector. RBC Capital Markets advised CRR, while National Bank Capital Markets advised Islander Oil & Gas Inc.

Strategic Growth and Regulatory Compliance

The acquisition, anticipated to close in December pending customary regulatory conditions, will expand CRR's operational footprint to approximately 200 kilometres of resource roads across Alberta, strategically located within key North American oil and gas plays like Montney, Duvernay, and Clearwater. This growth occurs within Alberta’s robust energy regulatory framework, overseen by the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), navigating an evolving policy landscape that balances resource development with broader economic and environmental considerations.
