Calgary Spa Worker Charged: Sexual Assault Investigation Underway

CALGARY, AB — A nail salon and spa employee faces sexual assault charges following a Calgary Police Service investigation that landed today.

The Sexual Assault Investigations Unit (SAIU) laid charges against the worker on February 13, 2026. CPS has not released the name of the accused or the business location, citing the active investigation and victim privacy protocols.

The Numbers Tell a Broader Story

This arrest comes as Calgary grapples with rising sexual assault reports. In March 2025, SAIU logged 31 cases—an 11% jump from March 2024. The city's sexual violence landscape is shifting, and police resources are stretching to meet demand.

The Calgary Police Service's 2026 operating budget hit $613 million, a 13% increase designed to bolster investigative capacity and victim support services. The Victim Assistance Support Team (VAST) provides frontline emotional and practical support for survivors navigating the criminal justice system.

Provincial Funding Scales Up

Alberta is pumping more money into sexual assault services. The province allocated $3 million for 2025-26 and plans another $4 million boost in 2026-27 for sexual assault centres across Alberta. That's on top of the $17 million baseline from 2024-25.

In October 2025, the province distributed $1.36 million through Community Pathways to Justice grants to 18 organizations as part of its 10-year Strategy to End Gender-Based Violence.

What Happens Next

The accused will appear in court at a date yet to be announced. CPS is urging anyone with information related to this case or similar incidents to contact the Sexual Assault Investigations Unit at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Under Canada's Criminal Code, sexual assault encompasses any unwanted sexual act without consent. Basic sexual assault falls under Section 271, with more severe charges applying when weapons, threats, or bodily harm are involved.

CPS launched a Sexual Violence awareness campaign in May 2025 with a core message: sexual violence is never the victim's fault. Consent must be voluntary, present at the time of activity, and can be revoked at any moment.
