Downtown Safety Blitz: Calgary Police in Action

Calgary Police are rolling out a focused, one-day initiative today, November 5, 2025, aimed squarely at boosting public safety in the city's downtown core. Dubbed "Safer Calgary – Operation Order," this concentrated effort responds directly to ongoing community concerns about safety and aims to foster greater engagement between residents and officers.

This morning, expect to see an increased police presence alongside bylaw officers, transit safety personnel, and social agency partners. Their mission is to connect with Calgarians in targeted areas like Beltline, Chinatown, and the Downtown Commercial Core, offering support and actively working to deter criminal activity.

The initiative comes as the perception – and reality – of social disorder and crime has not improved despite previous concentrated operations earlier this year. CPS Chief Katie McLellan stated, "We've heard you. Enough is enough." Data shows that violence in the Centre City reached a six-year high, largely driven by targeted assaults and street robberies, with disorder-related calls for service up 19 percent compared to other parts of the city.

Calgarians downtown today are encouraged to approach officers, ask questions, and learn more about the continuous commitment to making our city secure.
