Calgary Man Charged in Retail Voyeurism Incidents at Sport Chek, Winners

Incidents Unfold Across Calgary Retailers

Calgary Police have laid voyeurism charges against an Airdrie man following two separate incidents at major Calgary retail locations where it's alleged he intentionally filmed women and girls without their consent. The first incident occurred on Monday, June 30, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., at the Sport Chek located at 6455 Macleod Trail S.W. A young girl, while in a fitting room, noticed a cellphone slid under the door, pointing upwards. Her mother was alerted, and the incident was reported to police.

A second, similar event unfolded on Saturday, July 19, 2025, around 3:40 p.m., at the Winners store within Northland Village Mall, located at 5235 Northland Drive N.W. A woman in a fitting room observed a cellphone pointed towards her from the floor. Upon opening the door, she witnessed a man fleeing the store. Police were notified immediately, and subsequent review of CCTV footage reportedly showed the suspect following and filming a young girl for several minutes.

Investigation Leads to Charges

Following thorough investigation, including witness interviews and extensive CCTV review, the suspect was identified. On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, a search warrant was executed at his residence. As a result, Benjamin Ryan Turcotte, 25, of Airdrie, has been charged with three counts of voyeurism. Turcotte is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Upholding Public Safety in Commercial Spaces

These incidents highlight the Calgary Police Service's ongoing commitment to retail safety, extending beyond theft to protecting shoppers from privacy violations. Such crimes erode consumer confidence, potentially impacting vital retail corridors like Macleod Trail S.W. and Northland Drive N.W. The CPS emphasizes a proactive stance, reinforced by the 2025 Annual Policing Plan to enhance investigative capabilities. Victims of violent crimes in Alberta can access support through the Victims of Crime Assistance Program (VCAP), providing essential aid regardless of charges or convictions, underscoring provincial and municipal dedication to safety.
