Flames in the Beltline: Calgary Fire Team Quick to Extinguish Early Morning Blaze

Calgary’s vibrant Beltline awoke to a shock Tuesday morning as Bridgette Bar, a local favourite and cornerstone of the city’s renowned dining scene, was hit by an early morning fire. At 1:40 a.m. on November 4, Calgary Fire Department crews rushed to 739 10 Avenue S.W., where flames and smoke were billowing from the back deck of the popular establishment.

Thirty-two firefighters and eleven apparatus swiftly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the kitchen. However, the fire caused significant damage, estimated at up to $300,000, impacting the washroom and a private dining area. Thankfully, no one was inside the restaurant at the time. Bridgette Bar, known for its warm atmosphere and Mediterranean-inspired shareable dishes, often requires reservations weeks in advance and is a key part of the Beltline's bustling community. The restaurant’s owners anticipate a closure of "at least a few weeks" for repairs.

This incident serves as a crucial reminder for all Calgarians about the importance of emergency preparedness. The Calgary Fire Department encourages residents to have working smoke alarms, practice home escape plans, and consider the "Ready Calgary" e-learning course to enhance safety.
