Tragic Turn in NW Calgary Altercation: Charges Pending Update

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Calgary Police responded to a report of a physical altercation between two men in the parking lot of the McDonald's located at 63 Crowfoot Way N.W. While both individuals initially declined medical attention and police involvement, the situation escalated dramatically.

Just over an hour later, at 3:55 p.m., emergency crews were called back to the same location for a man in medical distress – one of the individuals from the earlier incident. He was rushed to the hospital in life-threatening condition and tragically died today, Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Chiu Man YUEN, 79, was charged with one count of aggravated assault prior to the victim's death and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow, Friday, October 24, 2025. An autopsy is also slated for tomorrow, and depending on its outcome and consultation with the Crown Prosecution Office, upgraded charges could be on the table. Police believe the victim and suspect were known to each other.
