Calgary Biogas Firm Powers Up with New CEO, Targets Alberta's Green Energy Future

Calgary Leadership for Green Energy

Calgary-based Canadian Biogas Investments Inc. (CBI), a developer specializing in dry fermentation anaerobic digestion projects, has appointed James B. Hartwell as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Hartwell, an experienced investment executive with a background including President and CEO of Emerging Equities Inc. in Calgary, will play a central role in CBI’s strategic planning and scaling of its renewable natural gas (RNG) platform across Canada.

Pioneering Dry Fermentation Technology

CBI holds the exclusive Canadian licensing rights for Renergon’s proven solid-state anaerobic digestion (RDS) technology. This advanced dry-fermentation system efficiently utilizes cattle manure as feedstock to produce pipeline-grade RNG, valuable carbon credits, and high-quality compost. Compared to conventional methods, RDS technology offers advantages like lower water use, improved process stability, and reduced odour.

Alberta's First Flagship Facility

The company’s first commercial facility is planned for the Driland Feeders feedlot in Warner County, Alberta, owned and operated by Jacob Bueckert. To execute this flagship project, CBI has engaged a strong lineup of Calgary-based partners: CANA Construction for design and management, Obsidian Engineering as lead consultant, Green Analytics for environmental expertise, and EXP as regulatory advisor.

Driving Calgary's Cleantech Economy

This initiative aligns directly with Alberta's evolving energy landscape and strategic policy objectives, including recent legislative updates to the Agricultural Operation Practices Act supporting the biogas industry. CBI's activities not only address provincial methane reduction targets but also reinforce Calgary's role as a growing cleantech hub, contributing to economic diversification and job creation within Alberta’s renewable energy sector.
