Calgary Arrests Highlight Persistent Copper Theft Challenge

Arrests Made in Livingston Copper Theft

Calgary police have apprehended two men, Sheldon LeDrew, 35, and Noah Shawn Joshua Lloyd, 26, in connection with the theft of copper wire from a new home under construction in the northwest Livingston neighbourhood. The incident, which occurred on November 4, 2025, at a site on Lucas Gate N.W., was initially detected by a private security company utilizing CCTV footage.

Officers swiftly tracked the suspects thanks to an electronic theft-prevention device attached to the stolen material. Both LeDrew and Lloyd now face charges of theft under $5,000 and mischief to property under $5,000, with a court appearance scheduled for January 5, 2026.

This arrest underscores a broader and persistent challenge for Calgary. Copper theft continues to be a significant concern, with incidents causing substantial financial losses for builders and utility companies, often leading to service disruptions and safety risks. Authorities emphasize the importance of vigilant reporting and innovative tracking methods in combating these costly property crimes across the city.
