Calgary Arrest Uncovers Cache of Weapons, Drugs; 75 Charges Laid

Major Seizure Follows Radisson Heights Arrest

A recent arrest in Calgary’s Radisson Heights has brought renewed focus to the ongoing battle against illegal firearms and illicit substances. On October 30, police located a stolen Subaru Forester and arrested 27-year-old Rory Libbrecht. Inside the vehicle, officers initially discovered a loaded handgun.

The investigation quickly escalated, leading to a search warrant executed at a garage connected to a home in the Rundle community. There, authorities uncovered a significant cache: two additional handguns (one loaded), 640 rounds of ammunition, two sets of body armour, 39 stolen licence plates, and fentanyl. This substantial seizure highlights the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing property crime and the circulation of dangerous goods.

Libbrecht now faces a total of 75 charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, multiple firearms offences, breach of probation, and drug possession. He appeared in court this week. This case underscores the serious nature of illegal weapon possession, which carries severe penalties under Canada's stringent firearms laws, aiming to bolster public safety for all Calgarians.
