Calgary Parents Frustrated by Delays in Strike Payments
Calgary Parents Await Strike Compensation
Frustration is mounting among Calgary parents as delays persist in receiving payments from the Alberta Parent Payment Program. This initiative was launched by the provincial government to assist families during the province-wide teachers' strike that disrupted schools earlier this year.
Parents have taken to online forums to voice their concerns over the unpredictable payment process. Many, like a parent who applied on October 15, report their application status fluctuating between "payment processing" and "submitted" without receiving the expected funds. Payments were initially slated for October 31, but issues have left families waiting.
Program and Delays
Introduced as a response to the strike, which occurred from October 6 to October 29, the program promised $30 per day for each child aged 12 and under affected by the closures. However, the high volume of applications led to processing delays. The Ministry of Education acknowledges these delays and advises parents to verify their e-transfer details.
While the government assures that most payments are underway, the delays highlight the challenges in administering large-scale financial aid. As the application deadline extends to December 1, parents remain hopeful for a resolution.
