Calgary Airport Clears Confusion on Verified Traveller

CALGARY — Confusion has been circulating about potential changes to the Verified Traveller line at Calgary International Airport (YYC), but officials confirm the program is still operational for domestic flights.

The Verified Traveller program at YYC continues to offer its full suite of benefits, which include a dedicated priority security line, front-of-the-line service, and the convenience of keeping laptops, electronics, and liquids in carry-ons. Travellers can also keep their shoes, belts, and jackets on while passing through security, and co-travellers are allowed to accompany them, according to CATSA sources.

New Security Screening Area

YYC recently opened the first phase of its Centralized Security Screening area for domestic flights in December 2025. This new area consolidates the previous checkpoints and introduces CATSA+ CT X-ray technology. This upgrade now allows all domestic passengers to keep large electronics, medical devices, and permitted liquids in their carry-ons, a benefit previously exclusive to Verified Travellers.

The overlap of these benefits might be causing confusion among travellers, as the enhancements available to all domestic passengers mirror those of the Verified Traveller program.

Program History and Accessibility

Launched on June 21, 2023, the Verified Traveller program replaced the Trusted Traveller program. It remains available for those eligible, including NEXUS and Global Entry members, as well as aircrew and military or police personnel with valid identification. Despite the changes in security screening areas, the program's availability and benefits at YYC remain confirmed by CATSA.

Clarification on Rumours

Recent discussions and queries, notably on platforms like Reddit, have suggested possible changes or removal of the Verified Traveller line. However, these claims are not supported by any official announcements from CATSA or YYC. The confusion may stem from the recent closure of old security lines and the introduction of the new centralized setup.

As it stands, the Verified Traveller service remains operational at YYC, and travellers are advised to look for signage directing them to the priority lines.

The airport and CATSA continue to assure passengers that the Verified Traveller program is intact, providing expedited and convenient screening for eligible participants.
