Calgary's Syantra Teams Up for Breast Cancer Breakthrough

Calgary’s vibrant biotech scene is making headlines again, as local innovator Syantra Inc. announces a groundbreaking partnership set to revolutionize early breast cancer detection and treatment. Announced on November 3, 2025, Syantra is teaming up with the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation to push cutting-edge technology to the forefront, enhancing inclusive access to care, especially for underserved communities.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone for the Calgary-based company. "While Syantra has had tremendous support from both the scientific and financial communities, ABCF is the first advocacy group to team up with us, making this partnership the first of its kind," stated Syantra CEO Rob Lozuk. These efforts are crucial, considering over 43% of women aged 40 and older are impacted by dense breast tissue.

This initiative is a testament to Calgary's growing prominence as a biotech hub, home to over 120 life sciences companies. The city fosters innovation with incubators like Alberta Innovates, which also supported Syantra with an award in January 2025, bridging the gap between academia and industry. Furthermore, Syantra's Co-founder and CSO, Kristina Rinker, is a founding partner of Biohubx, a new lab facility in northwest Calgary dedicated to nurturing early-stage life science ventures, showcasing deep local roots and impact. The partnership extends to a clinical study at the Mays Cancer Center in San Antonio and aims to pave the way for potential healthcare reimbursements, further solidifying Calgary’s position on the global biotech map.
